“Who cooks for you?” which is the call of the barred owl here. This photo was taken at the Raptor Trust – good people doing good work – and is a permanent resident due to a probable car strike. Where nature intersects with humans, nature rarely wins. So this bird lives out her life in relative comfort but without free flight. I have never seen one in the wild, yet. But I have heard one last year while camping – it was around midnight and it was as clear as day – “WHO COOKS FOR YOU?”. My follow campers were less excited than me since I decided to call back. Did I mention it was midnight?
